I like what you said about writing down three things that need to be done. If those important tasks are completed, I will feel accomplished! I appreciate the map analogy, too, which helps me visualize the course of my day (or hour)!

@Lennie - I do think the map analogy is helpful - I'm just following the plan and that makes transitions easier.

Unfortunately, I find myself in the "large cargo ship" camp here! I've only recently been diagnosed with ADHD and am sure that's related. While that's helpful for understanding myself, I'd also like to do what I can to speed up the transitions (I like the idea of keeping a list - I absolutely do this for leaving the house - but it has to be written out: I'd never make it through 6 mental checkboxes) 🙃

Anyone have any tips for coming at this from a neuro-divergent perspective?

@Emily - great question - and if a mental checkbox doesn't work, a physical one is probably a wise idea...

Transitions are hard for me and I tend to get pulled off course easily. I like what you said about following a map (that you’ve created beforehand) instead of constantly hiking through uncharted territory. Thanks for this!

Thanks for the relevant article. I can definitely improve on my transitions, and when I do manage a split shift, it inevitably turns into a late night at home. So the reminder to set a list and stick to it is a good one. At work I am better at it and when I get stuck in a transition, I go brush my teeth. Resets me every time.

@Jan - love that - brushing teeth can be a great reminder that it's time to move on. Thanks!

Split shift was a game changer! I have learned a lot from your writings and have made lots of changes. This article made me realize I am a lot more agile with transitions then I used to be. However, there’s still work because that swim meet/band concert comment hit home for me 😅

@Jenny - that's great to recognize that you're becoming more agile. Truly, a lot can fit in a day if it needs to. Not all the time - but there's no reason to worry about it too much :)
