I do this as well! I’ve gone overseas for 10-14 days with a carryon and backpack using the same logic: wear most twice. I bring a little bottle of detergent just in case. Saves time and makes traveling between places so much easier!
Great advice about packing whole outfits. Finally reconciled to the fact that I ALWAYS manage to get some kind of stain on myself, I don't plan to wear any piece twice. I just cram everything into my carryon and plan to spend an hour ironing upon hotel arrival. For me this has removed so much stress!
This is great packing advice. When I ask my kids to pack, I ask them to bring a number of complete outfits equal to half the number of days on vacation plus extra underwear and socks. Since their clothes are fairly mix and match anyway, they can recombine them into different outfits. I also resist the urge to add that extra item last minute. Inevitably it never gets worn if I bring it.
this is something my husband mentioned once that blew my mind. Other than your prescriptions, phone, passport and glasses, everything else can be purchased at the destination. It's so freeing.

@Eva - I always wondered about those hotel irons but I guess they are useful!

Exactly! And unless you're going to a wilderness area you can usually buy an extra shirt if you need it.
