We're celebrating my mom's 93rd birthday today, with a picnic! Too warm to eat outside today, but we'll enjoy our indoor picnic while reminiscing about the many picnics we've shared celebrating her over the years. Ar age 93, it's truly the little things that matter ♡
This is one of my favorite things about fall in the south. Dinner at dusk on our porch with a candle. We usually plate up inside and walk the plates out (and most definitely for the youngest three accident prone 😉). It’s even better if there’s a chapter of a read aloud with the children before bed out there too. All piled on the porch couch. These are some of my most treasured family memories. ❤️ During Covid on Friday nights in the fall we would pack up sloppy joes in a warmer and hot apple cider and have a picnic near a lake in a state park. It was so lovely to get out of the house and it was so special. We did it for two falls in a row! Thank you for recalling these to my mind. I’m excited for fall for more reasons now!
One of the things I like about our house is the fact that the kitchen has a door to the garden, and we’ve put our outdoor table right outside the door. It’s fewer steps between the outdoor table and the kitchen than the indoor one (although we’ve got a very groovy 70s hatch between the kitchen and dining room)
I love this! As summer has heated up, me and my 5 and 2-year-old have been eating breakfast outside in the back yard. We have pretty simple breakfasts- so this is easy to carry out. It’s a great way to start our day and enjoy the outdoors without instantaneously dripping sweat the moment you step foot outside. Another great benefit- we’ve been taking note of the local wildlife right in our yard (who knew there were so many species of hummingbirds!?).
