This is so timely for me (as most of your posts seem to be lately)! I have been in a role now for almost nine months - same company, new role. I am finding the transition more difficult than I expected. It’s not so much about the steep learning curve for the role but that the culture is so very different. I can’t seem to find a way to determine if I am making any impact whereas in my previous role impact was very measurable and tangible. This isn’t allowing me to actually decide if I like the position at all. I did read a great book a few years ago Love + Work by Marcus Cunningham that said this very thing - the 80/20 rule. I may just need to reread that for some current insight.
@Sandra - glad it was timely! I haven't read that book but it sounds like I should. And yes, learning curves can be hard but eventually you will figure it out.
I’ve been wanting to quit my job for ages now and this ratio just shows that I should have done it a lot sooner.
I set this goal for myself in college - to find a job I like 80% of time. I’ve been fortunate to have this be true in all of my roles so far!
