At 12, my kid had to call to find out the results of a scholarship she had applied for and we realized she had never once initiated a phone call and had to do extensive role playing ;)
The way my previous job handled this was to send a quick Teams message "ok to call?" to make sure the person had a bit of a heads up. This was great, because I could say something like "give me 5 min" if I was truly in the midst of something. Or they would just use Teams/Slack to send their quick questions, but that's another place to check. Personally I prefer the asyc methods but if it's an involved question, it's definitely easier to call.
I think people don't call because we've all got social anxiety.
Lol. Truth. I had to teach my 20-something child to make phone calls, it’s so rare now. Thanks tor this reminder!
