I did register (and receive) good china. Now, my choice for good china was a lot more fun than your typical formal grandma china. It's got color and 4 mix and match patterns. And we have used it everyday since we got married. Little known fact: China is a lot more durable than, say, stoneware. Does it break sometimes? Sure. But unless I get Corelware, everything breaks eventually. We have UUUUUUSED our china. Our china is the only option in my house. Everyday is special.
I love this idea. My university roommate's mother told me once in passing that she puts her good china in the dishwasher because it's the only way she'll use it and it was meant to be used. I have inherited my mother in law's good china because she has two sets from her grandmother's, and when we use it, it goes in the dishwasher. The gold rim might get a little worn but to me, that just means it's getting used!
Such great advice! Any time we get take, eat leftovers, have sandwiches I am pulling out the good plates to eat on. Every meal should be an event because breaking bread together is a special occasion! I even have a full plate and bowl set with real silverware at my office with a nice placemat.
We use the good china all the time (I have more than one set) AND I put it in the dishwasher (on the light setting). It's meant to be used and I'm fairly sure my kids won't want it all, so if it's worn out or a few pieces break, so be it. A side benefit of setting a pretty table with china and candles is that your kids behave better. I have zero scientific proof to back this up, but I swear by it.
loved this-I dont have expensive china- but i do have a lot of great stationery that i tend to hoard. Thats my version of using the good china- pick the fancy pen for daily to-do
