I appreciate this insight about getting and paying for help. We're so reluctant to outsource simple tasks. I once had a friend whose entire job was to do laundry for a family. As a laundry lover, that's now my ideal part-time job for retirement. In the meanwhile, I'm grateful to outsource cleaning and food prep.

I think a lot of people also forget the longer term impacts of reducing income which include things like less matched retirement savings which is a definite drawback in you future ... so maybe it feels expensive to hire a cleaner right this moment but factoring the future facing income as well can help.

Also, many many people do not fully use their paid time off or flexible benefits. Many of us who are feeling these stressors would feel so much better by taking an extra long weekend now and again (even if it isn't for taking care of the chores around the house). Work will be there - work life is long and no one thanks you for never taking time off and most likely you'll feel resentful of work.
