Check out my Winter Fun List
Little adventures to make a tough season better
After the holidays, it can be tempting to simply count the days until spring. Some years it seems like this is a great many days!
But I think it’s a shame to wish time away. While I do not naturally love winter, I know that I have the power to make any stretch of time feel better by intentionally planning in enjoyable things. If these little adventures are winter-specific, all the better. Then winter can be savored for its own sake.
To that end I’m posting my official Winter Fun List — things I hope to do before the vernal equinox. (By the way, want to see my Fall Fun List and how I did on it? Those posts are available at those links!)
Eat at a restaurant with a fireplace. This shouldn’t be too hard as the fire is often going at my favorite Mexican spot. But my local Panera has an electric fireplace going too, so I should stop there for coffee or lunch or for a little working-outside-the-house time. I’m not sure if 1906 at Longwood Gardens has a fireplace, but I have a reservation there for Valentine’s Day weekend when they are doing a truffle menu. Yum!
Light my office fireplace. You’d think this would be a no-brainer. During our renovation, I paid good money to get a gas fireplace set up in my office and turning it on is as easy as pressing the button on my remote control. But I need to remind myself to do this. So I am setting it as a priority to turn it on at least 20 times from mid-January to mid-March.
