Most weeknights, I am the one cooking dinner. I cook simple meals, and we have a rotation, so I don’t need to think about it. But I’m still the one stopping what I’m doing and getting food on the table. So it has been particularly galling when people would eat dinner, maybe put their own dishes in the dishwasher…and then walk away.
If I’m cooking I don’t want to be cleaning up afterwards too! If my husband (or nanny) was there they’d of course help but that’s not always the case. So I’d ask a kid to help and generally get some version of “why didn’t you ask so and so?” or “I did it two nights ago!” Arguing this point did not make me happier.
So eventually we hit on a different solution.
