Getting an extra day off work feels special. If you have school-aged kids, it can be hard to travel unless they’ve got extra days off school…but every so often that happens. For instance, my kids always have a half-day on the Thursday before President’s Day weekend, and then they get both the Friday and the Monday off.

However, this year we aren’t traveling, so I’ve faced a different question: How can you still make a long weekend feel fun when the weather will be gloomy and you aren’t going anywhere exciting? The good news is that I think it’s still possible to really enjoy this time…if you do a few things.
