How to make a Summer Fun List
Plus some items on mine
Yes, it’s only mid-May. In my part of the world, the weather is highly variable, and I haven’t put away my sweaters yet.
But summer is coming soon, and I think it’s helpful to spend some time thinking about the upcoming season. Thinking about what we’d like to do with our time massively increases the chances that we do these things. As summer is a great time to make memories, any time spent scheming and dreaming will result in a boost in life satisfaction.
This is what led me to sit in the Barnes & Noble cafe the other night working on my Summer Fun List. (With an iced oat milk vanilla latte — a drink my oldest has gotten me hooked on.) Long time readers know that I write one of these every year (for instance here’s one from 2016). I think ahead of time about what seasonal adventures will make summer feel like summer to me. The list has definitely changed over the years; I’m not sure anyone in my household will indulge me in strawberry picking this summer. But making the list gets me in a summer frame of mind.
So how do you make a Summer Fun List?
As with many things, I find it’s helpful to keep coming back to it. I started brainstorming this list a few weeks ago. The Best of Both Worlds Patreon community discussed our summer fun lists as part of our most recent monthly Zoom meet-up. I’ve been adding to the list, and pondering ideas, and sending myself emails when things occur to me.
