Much information work can be done from anywhere. This has been true for more than a decade. Yet until recently, working from home was seen as a perk to be doled out to folks who’d proved themselves over a multi-year tenure. Even then, it was reserved for Fridays. I guess the assumption is that anyone working from home wasn’t really working, so best to choose a low-opportunity cost day!
Covid changed all that. Faced with the option of letting people work from home or going out of business, most business leaders chose the former. It has been fine! Now, four years after those lockdowns, the American Time Use Survey finds that 34 percent of employed persons do some or all of their work at home on the days they work.
Even if we’re getting used to it, though, it’s still possible to improve. Here are some of my favorite tips for how you can make your work-from-home days as great as possible.
