The other day I figured that there's only so much time that I have left with my younger daughter to sit down with her and read books. She's already started reading, and in another year or two, I realized that I'm not going to ever again in my life have the same sense of intimacy with another human being as one does with young children – cuddling up together while reading a book being one such dynamic. And so I've scheduled active reading time in the evenings and I'm approaching it with more intentionality, knowing that this is the best way I found to thoroughly engage with my youngest daughter. And so I feel this urgency to take advantage of the remaining time and to savor these moments as much as possible.

I love this - I should try the same mindset shift about reading with my 4-year-old. Sometimes it feels a little forced at night with the same books (really, reptiles again!) but it won't be forever for sure...
