The hours after work and before bed can be hard to use well. Everyone is tired from the day. If your work day has been tightly scheduled, you can get to the evening and want to do…nothing.
But it’s impossible to do nothing. You’ll do something (particularly if you are responsible for other people!) What that something is can make a big difference between whether this time feels wasted (or like a grinding second shift), or like something more enjoyable and rejuvenating.
Longtime readers know I have been rebranding this post-work, pre-bed time as “the golden hours.” The key to making these hours feel golden is to have at least one intention for the time that is something you find fulfilling. Ideally, you choose this intention before you get to your golden hours so you can figure out any logistics and manage your energy to make it happen. With that in mind, here’s a list of potential golden hour activities that are pretty easy to pull off.
