I recently returned from a week in Spain with my older two boys. We had a great time, and you can read about some of our adventures here.

I really enjoyed traveling with two teenagers, which is a very different experience than traveling with little kids! A few things made the experience more enjoyable for us, and might be helpful for any trips you are taking too.

Make sure you can get into your hotel room if you’ll be tired. If you’re flying overnight to Europe, or really anywhere that involves a long flight, it is so nice to be able to get into your room to take a quick nap and recharge. So call ahead (or ask your travel agent to do so) to see if you can get early check-in. Or if you’ll be arriving really early, maybe spring for the night before (or ask about a day-room rate). Because we didn’t get into Seville until afternoon (after a domestic flight between Madrid and Seville) we didn’t have an issue but regardless, being able to take a short nap can take the first day from feeling terrible to feeling doable.
